Do you Remember When??

Postby Fordman » 11. Mar. 2016, 19:30

Just having a chat with the wife, and thought, what a good thread to start, for a laugh.....

32yrs ago, I had enough Scalextic to cover a mansion, grand stands, pitlanes, crowds you name it, more cars than Goodwood and at the age of 8 or 9 I asked my mum for some oil. As you could imagine her reaction was WTF

I went on to explain that I wanted it to rub on the banked corners so the cars would skid out :D

So what do you remember from your childhood

I remember crying one birthday, because my parents had bought me this . . .

Think the wife made me get rid of it about 6 years ago during a house move

This might surprise you, but I was regional champion at RC racing. At that time I was racing a Tamiya Top Force

I then progressed to a Schumacher Cat 200 EC where I finished 12 in the Nationals ( top 10 Qualified for Euros)

This was all before I found LFS

It was Christmas and I was (I think) 7 or 8 years old and I wished for a remotely operated car.
And I wanted something like, the white Lotus Esprit from the James Bond movie, or a Ferrari or a Lambo or a Porsche, but all I got was a BMW.

Something like this (not exactly):

But then I couldn't play with it, because we had to go to church (WTF!).
So I finally got it and then we had to leave for church, omg what a pain for a 7 year old.
After endless bla bla and singing there, we were back home and I could finally play with it
but the car was driving as fast as a turtle.
So I was totally disappointed. And I think I also cried a bit.

Then I noticed that the car runs extremly fast when going backwards.
After some minutes of thinking I changed the direction of the batteries and suddenly the car was running fine and fast in all directions.
So in the end I was happy and had lots of fun because we had a some kind of a foyer in the house that was tiled and the car was running great on that subfont and also screamed a bit when sliding. Gorgeous :)

I wish :( I was really into Subbutteo, I had the same setup, and all my mates used to come around, we have our own league going, we used to beeswax the buttom of the players so they would slide better.....oh the happy days

We (my best friend) only had something like this:
The players had fixed positions and there was a little pit around them so the ball moved into this pit then you could aim and shoot.
Was great fun back then.
