That is definitely getting your money`s worth out of the car.

One thing I`d like to know though, do you think it was because you looked after it particularly well, or was it shear build quality. Maybe a bit of both?

In the later stages (+400.000 km), a bit more. But that was just about making sure there is enough fluids (oil, water) in the car.
The car was pretty much used for everything from long distance trips to towing heavy stuff. Things that broke got replaced, although from a technical point of view there wasn't really much that could go wrong.
The only things that got replaced were:
- fuel pump
- catalytic converter (broke, but also had the nice effect of less taxes)
- water cooler (twice)
- head gasket
- front shocks
- front brake line
- rear brake calipers
- air-flow meter
(- engine)
+ plus the normal stuff

That's not really much for a 22 year old car

Since my BMW was stolen (MotherF######s) I bought a Seat Leon Cupra R. It has a Modded Airintake and full Milltek Exhaust system. It is chipped producing+-320 HP. Provided graph was measured with Euro 95 (Too bad), but it gives an pretty idea of the car's power :)
