My PC Upgrade

What a way to start a thread. Here is my dilemar. I have a HP Pro 3400 MT PC. I Purchased a GTX 750ti, and it doesn't work. Spent all weekend trying to get it to work, MB Bios upgrade etc etc you name it. I am now returning the card, as I think it is a DOA, as my G210 works fine in the same slot, and yes I have a 500W power supply.

I am looking to upgrade, as cheap as possible to if the card is not faulty, but the MB cannot handle it, and use all my hardware at the moment, so what's your thoughts.

From my experience it's most of the times a PSU problem, if the users don't forgot to plug in the separate PCIe power connector (but the GTX 750ti does not have one iirc).

What PSU you have? As I had cheap 600W PSUs but they don't really have this output. 600w it's just laboratory values that you never get in reality.

I had a similar problems with some Board/CPU/GPU configs, nothing helped except changing the PSU.
So if you get another card and it still doesn't work I would try to change the PSU (maybe you can borrow it from someone or order it somewhere and send it back later, if that's not the problem)

I usually always use cheaper AsRock boards (AsRock is btw the 3rd largest motherboard manufacturer, was a company of ASUS) and never really had any problems with it.
So you could save money with the board and then keep the old case and save some more money and maybe spend that then for another good PSU?

But I would really recommend testing another PSU at first if you get the gfx card back or another gfx card.

Thanks for that, it is a brand new 500W PSU, brought specifically for the card upgrade, as I only had a 300W. I spoke to ebuyer "technical support" and they are accepting the return, no questions, and sending a new one, so will see what happens there.

I was told to avoid the H81 chipset, as it is only a slight upgrade to the H61 I have now and might have the same issue's. SO many people told me "plug in the extra power" but like you said, it doesn't have one

I suppose when you look at it, I didn't pay for the PC, I didn't pay for the memory, I didn't pay for the HD and I didn't pay for the 3 monitors and I got a MAJOR discount on the brand new G27 direct from Logitech, so Karma tells me, about time I payed out Also, I would like a 4 slot Memory board, as I have 16gb sitting here.....waiting to be used

Then don't buy your MSI board as I checked for the socket and it has Intel Socket 1150

The Matx or Micro Atx is smaller and usually quadrangular while the "normal Atx" is rectangular and bigger.
Usually normal ATX boards fit into Midi towers without problems but you got less space in there then.
So if you got lots of HDDs, DVD, Burner, etc. I would go for a Micro Atx board if you got a Midi Tower case as you got better room for cable and such things like big gfx cards and the air is circulating better aswell if the case is not completely filled with the motherboard.

Got an email from Ebuyer today......

Following extensive tests by our returns technicians, this item was found to be faulty. A replacement product will be dispatched as soon as the RMA is closed.

I thought "no shit sherlock"

Hopefully it will work with the new one.

That reminds me on the faulty TV card I once had. Instead of giving me a new one, (no why being friendly to a long time customer) they needed to "test it" and that took fully 14 days. Then they told me yes the card is broken and I can fetch a new one in their store. No need to say that it was the last time I bought there

It should be with me tomorrow. I rang them this morning, as they had put it on a normal 5 day delivery, and I told them that when I originally purchased it, I paid for Sat delivery, and they changed it for me......

Well what a load of &^%$£%^&*&* Got the new card, and this time, it booted (with Intel enabled ) but all I got was:

Code 12: This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use

I have nothing else plugged in, tried everything, so guess it's a new motherboard is required, oh great

Also rebuild PC, just in case, but still no joy
