The 2nd race of the season took place on Aston Club, a rather simple track with 2 slow 180°ish corners, a fast “I will bite you head off if you don’t take me serious” chicane and long straights in the middle. Starting for Triple 7 Racing Sir. Pingo and Three Jump did their best to deliver a great result, but read for yourself.

Qual

With 27 drivers showing up for the 2nd race of the season on a smaller track than Blackwood finding the space to do a decent lap proved to be one of the main issues for qualify, the other big problems was that all drivers seemed to bring their A++ game which resulted in a gap from 1st to last of about 1,27 seconds. Sir. Pingo got himself on an great 5th place giving him a good chance for a podium result. Three Jump meanwhile was giving his best no to loose too much time with his +36 kg success ballast for being 2nd in the championship standings and put himself on the 13th position.

Race

The first corner of the race went smooth for both T7R drivers with Pingo gaining a position and another one later in the same lap putting him on 3rd place behind Piropa and Gerdoner. Three Jump managed to stay out of any contacts in the middle of the field, kept his position and moved up to 10th place on lap 2 when the cars in front of him had a small collision.

Being stuck on 3rd place, with Gerdoner in front and VoiD in the mirror, Sir. Pingo went on halfway through the race gaining and loosing time but without a real opportunity to make a move for the 2nd place. In the meantime sidi had closed up to 3J after his small collision and both continued the fair battle they had started at Blackwood 2 weeks ago until lap 6 where Three Jump managed to slowly sneak away and gaining some time on the 2 Zoom drivers in front of him. At the end of lap 25 that closing up and battle came to an end when Jokelainen had a contact with the lapped ATC driver Gedlad sending him back into the racing line and 3J into the gravel who headed straight into the pits after and came back on 14th place right behind 2 other cars which cost him some time to get by again.
With Piropa heading into the pits on lap 29 Pingo moved up to 2nd place closing in up on Gerdoner. As Pingo was not able to make a pass he decided pitted on lap 36 giving him the chance of a few free laps the following minutes allowing him to get ahead of Gerdoner on lap 45 when he made his stop and move up to the 2nd place after VoiD did his mandatory stop on lap 54.

Meanwhile Three Jump was stuck on 8th position with a 2 seconds gap behind sidi without any possibility to close up with his heavier car. With everyone having a small gap between each other the last laps should have been rather boring but the drama came back on lap 54 when Gerdoner blew his right rear tire on T1 forcing him to limp back the whole lap for a new tire. In the last lap Cropsy run out of fuel being in a comfortable 4 position not allowing him to finish the race.
So Piropa won the 2nd race of the season, at least that was what everybody thought and the unofficial results said. However a replay of his pitstop showed that he crossed the pit entry line which resulted in a +20 seconds penality. Exactly the same happened to Jokelainen so that in the end Sir. Pingo won the race as he was the fastest and most ruleproof driver of the event. Big congrats mate. Three Jump meanwhile finished on 5th place allowing him to take over the championship standings just 1 point ahead of sidi.
