rswc_e4_frontThis weeks report features the Raceevent held in South Citys narrow and twisted streets.

But it ain't Gavin writing this time, Charles has given the Raceabout the spin this time and it went quite good. But read the full story

Warmup

Qualifying went fairly well I thought. I didn't get to my personal best time, but the guys in front of me didn't either so it was a good 8th position start for me.

Sprint Race

rswc_e4_sprint1I didn't get the best start to the sprint race. Was trying to be too careful about tyres and was quickly renovated back to 10th.  This track was definitely not so favourable to the FZ50 drivers so I pulled a quick manoeuvre on lococost and put myself back into 9th 2 laps later.  Set my eyes on AdamLFS and possibly Karolis[LT].  I saw Karolis was struggling quite badly with tyre temperatures.  It was close between all 4 of us at one stage. Slightest error and your position would be thankfully taken.  I moved up to 7th.  My tyres were now not in the best shape and AdamLFS was much stronger under braking. A careful last few laps and I was able to finish the race in 7th.

Main Race

rswc_e4_main1Main race grid was in a reversed championship points order.  Having missed two of the Winter Cup events, I was positioned right up front in second position.  Seeing this as a great opportunity to I made it my mission to be in front ASAP and stretch and only have to worry about the very experienced racers.  For a change, things went my way. I was into 1st after the first hairpin.  At the second there was some contact as the group behind were closely bunched.  This created a sizeable lead for me and the first lap was yet to end.  The top drivers took a few laps to emerge out of the pack and I had been doing my best in the mean time doing some good 1:48's.  Once DaveWS was in clean air he immediately made his intentions clear, easily taking over 1 second a lap out of my lead.  Before I knew it he was up behind me and I was overtaken around the outside of the last 180 degree corner.  I just sighed and concentrated on the gap to Troy.  Troy caught me on lap 22 and stuck right behind me for a lap until, from my view he dropped right back. After the race I asked what happened and I had lagged and spun right in his way, bringing him almost to a standstill at T3. This resulted in me getting a gap of 2 seconds. Few corners later I caught up to lap Ihab Abbas who pulled over to let me pass. Troy connected with Abbas and went into a spin.  I kept my pace but was not so pressured for the remaining part of the race resulting in a second place overall.

My result was definitely down to my grid position and making so much time whilst others were fighting.  I will be further in the pack next time around and will enjoy the new challenges.

I'm really enjoying this championship so far. Great work Danowat!
