tdc1round5Round 5 of the Triple Double Cup (TDC)
The penultimate race of the season was held on the Kyoto Ring National on the 19th of October 2008.

For the last time we changed the cars and so we had to do this time 25 laps in the XFR (XF GTR) around Ky2.

The 15 minutes of the qualifying started and this time the guys from ATC Team showed the best performance. ATC gAg won the qualy with a nice 1:48.41 lap which brought him the pole, closely followed by his teammate ATC Dadge who finished with 1:48.46 on the 2nd place. The Top 3 was completed by T7R|Three Jump who finished the qualifying with a 1:48.56 lap.

The grid was complete and the lights went green for the start. We had a little touching between the ATC guys on P1 and P2 in turn 1 and FLP/r Jouman was the lucky one who could pass there for the lead.

It took only 4 laps and then ATC Dadge, who is still battling with Jouman for the Championship win, was able to attack the leader. For the next 4 laps they passed each other a few times and then Dadge decided to pit in lap 8. FLP/r Jouman did his stop only 1 lap later and he was a bit over 1 second in front when he came back onto the track. But the pitting was maybe a bit to early and both had to deal with a group of drivers who were still on their first stint. During the overtakings Jouman and Dadge lost some overall time. But Dadge also closed the gap on Jouman and they were now together again, bumper to bumper.

In lap 13 they started again to pass each other for some times and then next couple of laps we saw some great defendng manoeuvres by Jouman who tried to keep ATC Dadge behind with all the tricks.

In lap 20 and as surprisingly as Dadge did it in the last round, T7R|Three Jump took the lead after his late pit stop. He stayed out of trouble during the whole race and that gave him the second he was now in front of both championship contenders.

In the 21st lap Jouman was maybe a bit distracted by a yellow flag in front of him and Dadge passed him shortly after this for the last time. He tried to counter attack him but it didn't worked and then he coudn't find a way to get near to ATC Dadge again, who was now already in the slipstream of the leader Three Jump.

ATC Dadge used the slipstream and also passed Three Jump for the lead in lap 24 but 3j answered this with a passing move in T1 of the very last lap and then he defended his position for a few more turns and brought his car home for the victory.

Right after the race T7R|Three Jump said:
"I'm obviously very happy with my performance. Although I hadn't the fastest car on the track, I managed to pass my opponents with my strategy of constant fast lap times and staying away from the hard battles between Jouman and Dagde which helped me to gain the time I needed to stay in front after my pitstop."

Congratulations on the win and also to ATC Dadge and FLP/r Jouman who completed the podium by finishing on the 2nd and 3rd place.

Next to the guys at the top there were so many great battles during the whole race between various drivers and it would break the mould if I had to also write about all this (as much as I would like to). Instead I just say: Thank you guys, thank you for another great race in the Triple Double Cup.

Now there is only the season final with Round 6 left and who has thought that it will be this thrilling. FLP/r Jouman leads the Cup with 143 points and ATC Dadge is only 1 point behind him with 142. T7R| BBO on the 3rd with 127 and ATC gAg on P4 with 119 points have also still theoretical chances to win the TDC. I'm really curious about how this will end when we drive next week on the Fern Bay Gold course.

I hope to see you there.

Lastly and like always: The results and standings, the replays, the after race reports and much much
more is available in the Triple Double Cup (TDC) board of the T7R forum.
