Gentlemen’s Cup Round 7 PDF Print E-mail

There was not much time in the last days for a quick review due to the new LFS test patches, the iRacing testing and other real life stuff that's going on here.

But better late then never. Here is a little report of the Gentlemen's Cup race number 7, that was held on sunday the 22nd of June.

The track was the South City chicane Route and with 28 drivers the grid was almost filled completly.

The track:
Again a very short track with lots of walls on the left and on the right. Looks like an easy one. But only the first sector is the easy part.

Then after the back straight comes the downhill turn, a slow left hander and the nasty chicane. If you have mastered all this then there is only the last turn left. If you also got this one right then you'll have enough speed for the S/F part of the track.

The qualification:
With only 30 seconds on the clock it looked like it was a clear pole for Mr. Pickard from Mercury followed by Jouman FLP/r and TPC Hising.

But Lasse Vad did a fantastic 1:23.56 with only 26 seconds time on the clock and so no one was able to beat that. Congratulations, nice lap.

Our members qualified like this: Three Jump on P5, Esben on 7 followed by BBO and Richard on P9 and 10. Dean on the 19th and Andreas on 24.

Some couldn't repeat there times from the training sessions and so there were some wasted opportunities for our Team.

21 drivers qualified within 1 second and so it was no wonder that every 10th of a second brought you down the grid more then a few places.

The Race:
Again for some of us a little disaster. After the lag (test) start, right in front of the real start "Who Cares" dropped out and was placed at the end of the grid. BBO completly lost the connection and quickly joined the server again and then the Admins decided to restart the race for the 3rd time. Which was also done this way in some of the test races but I want to thank them again for this. Because starting from the 28th place is still better then to not race at all after all the practice sessions.

Esben
had a good start but in lap 2 he locked the brakes while passing 3j in T2 and then he hit Hising, both spun (and he got a warning for the next race for that). Next to loosing some places he kept on going and could finally finish 2 places better then he started. So the 5th place was still a good result.

Three Jump (Jan)
had in lap 4, right after M.Fyhr pitted and disconnected, a little lag in T1 and rammed the walls. He damaged his car badly and lost a lot of time and places while repairing it in the pits afterwards.

In the end that accident costed him the race and he, as the fastest T7R driver that day, finished on a for him completly unexpected and dissapointing 19th place.

BBO (Bernd)
due to his disconnection had to start from the very last place. As 28th he had no other option then to push as hard as possible.

He had some good fights in the 32 laps and some really gave him a hard time, as it is not really easy to pass someone on that track, no matter if you are quicker or faster.

But he passed 19! other drivers and in the end he finished on a respectable 9th place. But he still is not sure if this was one of the best races he ever did or if it was just a big loss of points.

Richard
had again some problems with his grafix card at the start and his screen went black for a few seconds right in front of T2, so he missed that turn and almost parked on the track and lost 9 places during that.

A few turns later his was down to the 21 place. But like we do it in T7R, he never gave up and tried to fight his way back up and after some nice fighting he could finally finish on the 14th position.

gc7-3

Dean
had some problems in the first lap and went down to P23. It was strange to see four T7R drivers on P20,21,22 and 23. But there is a first time for everything.

Deano also didn't gave up and was at the near end of the race on P16 but a little mistake in lap 28 and Mikael Larsen passed him and so he finished on the 17th place.

Andreas (G.I.Joe)
couldn't find his speed in the qualifying but had a good start in the race and he quickly moved up some places and then the bad luck mode started.

In T1 of lap 2 when there were 4 cars wide he touched Richard a bit and slowed down and lost two place but quickly gained one back. In lap 3 right in front of him M. Fyhr lost control of the car while touching a wall and took Andreas with him. And another 5 places were lost.

In lap 4 he nicely passed two cars at once in the last turn and it looked like it will go on like this but at T1 of lap 5 he got an unlucky nudge from Kim Osterby and kissed the wall.

In lap 16 after half of the race the bad luck knocked again at his door and he got a disconnection and that's it. No points this time.

Pingo (Kristian)
didn't raced this round.
In front of the race he said he wasn't sure if he could make it and unfortunatly he couldn't start this time.

gc7-4

The winner
of the race was Lasse Vad who made no big mistakes and who had an amazing speed through the qualifying and the whole race and no one really could go his speed this time not even Jouman who finished on the 2nd place. The third on the podium was T. Hising.

So our congratulations goes to these three guys.
Well done!

Final standings after Round 7:

It's still looking good for our Team and we hope we can go on like this and that we score some more points in the next round of the Gentlemen's Cup.
