Yea that was epic. Computers can be mean to poeple sometimes. But most troubles starts usually with users who don't know anything and do things they shouldn't. Just like me when i first dissassambled my pc to clean it Cheesy
I don't know what i was thinking but somehow i managed to pull off one of the condensators from the mainboard and of course i lost it. There was no way it would work without it - i know... i tested it..what a moron Smiley

Well i was pretty lucky with that as i just took something i though had similiar properties as the one i lost and attached it to the MB. And it worked lol. It was the same Mb from that pentium 100 case. Well it worked only by lying on the side but it worked lol.

Btw i have a nice little movie from that time with my old pc.   GO ahead try it Cheesy

Hah
Indycar racing 2 by Papyrus. My first racing sim from 1995. Still got all my replays from that game. I like to run it sometimes in dosbox and watch how i was screwing around Smiley  I've spent many hours with that game.

I remember also a little story about smoke and some small fire and a PC.
We had a customer (kind of friend and smart ass who always wanted everything for free)
who had problems with his PC.
He said his PC smells strange and sometimes got bluescreens etc.

So I went to his house and saw where he placed his PC.
Inside a closed drawer in his desk (see. the little pic I made in a hurry Wink)
He made just some tiny wholes in the backplate for Joystick and mouse and Power cable
and there was not really much space (nowhere) around the whole PC.
And the front door was also always closed and above was a bookshelf filled completely.

I:
I asked him if he ever opend it and cleaned it because of dust etc.
as this can be a problem especially for the PSU.
And that it is not really a good idea to place a PC inside such a surrounding

He:
No problem I got a clean house and this can't be.
The PC is running in there for almost 4 years without a prob.

I:
Oh oh plz. just let us have a look inside the case to check it.

So he got the PC out of the desk and wanted to do it more or less alone
Plugged the power cable in and I said:
NO wait I first want to look inside because if there is to much dust in the fans and PSU etc. the whole PC can burn down because of things like this or if the fan is working completely your CPU can be destroyed etc. etc. bla bla.

He:
Llaughed and said he didn't believe me and that I just want to sell him new stuff.
Then he turned the PC on and said do you hear that strange noise and now wait a bit then the smelling will start.

Then after 1 minute or so a few small flames came out of the PSU at the back and I grabbed the cable and pulled it out of the socket. Tehn there were only some small clouds of smoke.

Then I said: OK I do see what you mean, now I can smell it too ( laughing7)

TBH this was the first and only time I saw real flames coming out of a PC/PSU and by god I saw and fixed and build hundreds over the years.

In the end he bought a new PSU from us and inside the PC where lots of dust bunnies.
Man the piece was really dirty inside.
But nothing we couldn't clean with our compressed air cleaner.

He nowadays puts his PC on the desk instead of inside
so I think he learned at least something from it  mrgreen

Jeez! Not only does he give zero ventilation to the PC with little air surrounding it, and relies on a wooden case to dissipate the heat... but he then crams loads of combustable books in there as well!
Lucky he called you, the next call would have been the emergency services, followed by his insurer

nice one, but happend to me also a couple of years ago Smiley

I also fried my pc right after my holidays some years ago. Before I went I pulled all plugs out of the socket thinking "well, pc don't need power with me not using it". When I came back and put the plug back in the socket it made a nice "swoosh" sound and my pc turned itself on for around 2 secs before going out in a cloud of smoke again. Of course everything was fried and I learnd that my psu had a leaky capacitor right a that point which is there to prevent exactly what happend...

Back in the early 90's I used to have all my pc parts mounted on a piece of wood hanging on a wall, was quite cool to look at Cheesy
