Title: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: BBO on June 06, 2008, 12:52:15 am Just in case you missed this
The Sim Racing Tonight (www.insidesimracing.tv) guys could drive it (a bit) Unfortunatly they don't show a real race, just practice laps and how the web based interface of iRacing looks like. Take a look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbAC-PV3lZI&eurl=http://insidesimracing.tv/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=148&Itemid=206 There are still lots of unanswered question for me (No side view / side mirrors? Only cockpit view? ... etc. etc.) and things I really don't like (no skinnable cars or helmets, no pickup racing with friends, every new track [you need to buy them] when your license goes up 15$ to 25$... etc. etc.) So it's defnetly not something you can enter and just race for fun for an hour in the evening (as every race etc. will have influence on your rating/license/rank and will follow you forever in the stats) Anyway I think there is no other way then testing it yourself to really judge about it. Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: three_jump on June 06, 2008, 09:10:57 am Looks like playing iRacing will be like renting a car from sixt (or similar)...
- you pay for it every time - you don't own it (you stop paying and can't use it anymore) - you can't customize it (new skin) - when the dealer goes bankrupt you loose the car / game - you're not allowed with the car to do what you want / to damage it without consequences whoever buys this... have fun with it... edit after seeing the vid: iRacing = epic fail At least I can't see why a person with some common sense would buy this dictator game... Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: Richard Torp on June 06, 2008, 11:04:21 am I can`t take articles like that serious. When it`s out i`m gonna buy a "demo-month" and see what it is, I can`t judge anything on iRacing before that..
I`m looking forward to try it out.... Can`t wait.. :icon_tongue: Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: Sir. Pingo on June 06, 2008, 07:47:01 pm The price really scares me.. But i'm also gonna go with a month for a start and see what it will bring.
It looks very promising, and I like what I have seen so far. Hopefully it wont be too good.. cause then i'm broke  Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: Richard Torp on June 06, 2008, 08:28:58 pm You can always collect empty cans and beer bottles and sell them. One beer bottle 1,- d.kr If you collects 200 cans or bottles (per month),then i`m sure that you can have fun in iRacing.. :laughing7:
You could also try to sell some of your organs for iRacing.. :clown:  Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: Sir. Pingo on June 06, 2008, 09:21:00 pm That's waht I do for living every day, Rich
Nahh.. Hopefully they will raise my salary at my current job, when I turn 18. Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: VTX on November 03, 2009, 09:30:41 am Hi Guys,
I hope you're all doing ok :) As stated in the shoutbox I put my race setup back together and started racing again! Started LFS and it was chaos :( Still the noobs who crash into everyone etc. Well I though let's give iRacing a try. I got a 1 month subscription for $5 (promo code), and I really love it! Right after getting into a training session I got help from a more experienced iRacing driver, giving me his setup, and drove me around the track (insim voice chat), showing me the gears and braking points. I drove for 3,5 hours and only had like 3 accidents where 2 where my fault. You won't believe how clean the racing is (and that was only in the training)! If you thought about it (like I did), try it! Sorry for this post, but I had so much fun yesterday night, felt like the begin days of LFS! I really wished LFS had a structural system with something like the iRating (safety points) that iRacing has. Anyway: I'll report back here when I have some more iRacing experience, and post my thoughts then :) Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: P1LOT on November 03, 2009, 01:55:21 pm Hi Barry :)
I have given up with iRacing for the moment. I had subscribed for 15 months after the Beta test phase but had not used it much this year at all, with getting married and falling out of practice with iRacing. Unfortunately they could not put my account on hold for using at a later time. The shine had worn off with me. It was always clean racing for me since I was with the first wave of beta testers, so it was always likely there would be no trouble makers in my licence group as I progressed. Once I had got to A licence I pretty much stopped. To be honest I didn’t deserve A licence; I had just missed the cut at the end of my B licence season, but then they changed the safety calculation (dumbed down). The tracks are fantastic, my favourite was Virginia. I never got used to the physics of the cars though, it being so different from LFS. It took me a lot of practice to get any feel for it, but I still thought it was too unforgiving with unrealistic snap back of the slightest slide which would result in a spin (Mazda and Radical). Curbs were as absolute no-no! The Skippy was the most fun. The sounds never impressed me, the repetitive tyre squeal noise of the Solstice stuck in my head . The main reason I stopped was that it just wasn’t as fun as LFS for me. Races were lonely affairs, everyone was so wary of their safety rating and the net code would not allow close racing. Get within a car length of someone and they would concede the place. I keep reading the improvements they are making and, no doubt, a lot of my concerns have probably been improved. In reality it would take a lot of practice for me to be able to race in iRacing again, time which I don’t have at the moment. I can just jump into LFS after some time away and stay within control. Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: VTX on November 09, 2009, 11:30:32 am I did some more iRacing and I must say that I love it!
1 problem: I need a new PC if I want it to look a bit better. Now running 51fps everything on low details. Does any of you know if this system will run it with full details (1280x1024)? AMD Phenom II X4 945 Kingston ValueRAM KVR800D2N5K2 4G Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ, 1TB Asus EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5/A Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: BBO on November 09, 2009, 03:23:29 pm I'm pretty sure it's enough CPU and RAM power and the GFX card looks ok too
Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: VTX on November 09, 2009, 03:49:16 pm Thanks BBO :)
I just ordered a G27 to replace my old black momo racing. Dunno when Im going to buy the new PC, maybe next month (depending on my wife also hehehe) :) Any of you guys race iRacing? Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: VTX on November 21, 2009, 11:25:05 am No one?
Im really enjoying iRacing! The G27 is great :) Today Im going to get the new PC, decided to go for: Radeon HD4870 1024MB POWERCOLOR PCS INTEL CORE i5-750 4x2,67GHz Box 1156 MSI P55-GD65 Glan/R/FW/DDR3 1156 SAMSUNG 1000GB HD103SJ 32MB Sata300 DDR3 2GB 1333 KINGSTON 1ner CL9 (x2) LG GH22NS30/40/50 DVD-RW BLK SII Bl NETZTEIL CORSAIR 650W 650HX V2 Plug MIDI COOLERMASTER CM 690 Schwarz o.W I really wanted the 5870 for a three monitor setup, but is is totally out of stock everywhere. So I'll get that in December or January :) For now I'll race on my current 19'' monitor :) Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: Exodus on November 21, 2009, 04:13:38 pm I think most of us have given the trial a go. I took a 3 month go at it too and enjoyed it but came back to LFS after it expired.
I see through the mailings I get from iRacing they have reduced their prices on everything which is good. I may get another trial over the Christmas period for a little something different :) Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: BBO on November 22, 2009, 11:10:58 am No one? Im really enjoying iRacing! The G27 is great :) Today Im going to get the new PC, .... I think it's like Charles said. I had also given the trail a go. But I missed to much of the little things [and some of the real (for me) important stuff too] I also noticed that it takes lots of time to race (and be competitive) there. And if you want to take part in leagues (I was interested in) then you have to buy the tracks and cars. I still think the most annoying thing is that you can spend lots of money there but in the end it's not yours. You don't own anything nor the cars or the tracks you "bought". You just rent all the stuff and in the moment you don't pay the monthly fee anymore you'll loose everything. And only if you pay again you can use it again. When I tested it I couldn't even watch my stats anymore when the subscription ended. So I do like iRacing somehow but I still have big problems with the whole business system they have choosen. I wll try it again sooner or later (to see the changes they made myself) but I doubt that I will ever pay for more then 1 month or 3. About your PC specs. Looks good and I bet you won't have any trouble running it with this machine. I'm using the same HDDs (4 or 5 atm) now for some time. I they work very well for me (except they have a strange (kind of scratch/click) sound sometimes when they start or when you shut down the PC but thats normal for this series, so don't worry if you hear that ;) Title: Re: iRacing preview from SRT Post by: three_jump on November 22, 2009, 07:58:07 pm I don't have it and to be honest I don't think I'll ever even try it. As Bernd said it's more like just renting a game and thats some kind of business model I don't want to have. Additionally I simply don't have the time to make the subscription thingy working for me. ;)
