Recently I got weak and got myself a new toy to play with...

http://www.archos.com/products/imt/archos_5it/internet.html

As I ditched my mobile a while back (don't want / need one) I have been since looking for a nice mobile device for travelling around. Apart from the usual mp3 / video stuff this thing also comes with wifi, bluetooth and android (so, lots of apps), which I found quite handy as I can even connect to the network at my uni (wpa2-enterprise).

So, what technical stuff do you have for your daily life?

Oh yes, I'm into gadgets in a big way

My phone is a Nokia N97 mini, with WiFi, satnav, full keyboard, motion sensors. I'm forever checking what new applications are out for it. I can connect through my network while sat on my sofa, to download podcasts, check Facebook etc.

Elsewhere I've got 3 DAB radios, including in my car; webcams pointing to the driveway with motion detection software; practically everything networked (through the mains for furthest kit)
I sometimes connect to a home webcam from work, to see where the cat is sleeping Smiley
Why? Because I can (although the wife dispares)

If it doesn't have a power supply, it's an ornament.

What a great tv series  icon_thumleft

Anyway finally found some time  ;-)
I'm also a big fan of gadgets and made some quick pics of mine.

My smallest gadget is my mobile from HTC called XDA mini.
Almost 5 years old but also has a touch screen (long before Apple invented touch screens again ;-))
Using windows mobile on it as for me the most important part is that I can easily connect to outlook and exchange data, messages, e-mails, adresses etc.
I love it especially when changing or freshly install the PC or reinstalling the mobile phone.
I then can easily plug it in and have all my adresses and contacts etc. back on both devices in a few seconds.
And when it's get boring somewhere I can play solitaire :-) or watch some movies or hear mp3 via the mediaplayer.

My biggest gadget is my Home Theater PC (HTPC) using MediaPortal as software under Win7.
Got all my media on it Movies, TV Series, Pictures, Music Videos, MP3 and TV with timeshifting and HD recording and electronic programm tv guide, weather forecast, cinema previews, etc. etc.
I can also use my other PCs to wach TV or movies with the client software from Mediaportal (even so they don't have a TV card installed). As the software works as server/client and streams everything via my network also live TV.

I always find there things to improve or to test and there are lots of software plugins for it.
After I found out how easily I can also include Webradio via a plugin (now got thousands of stations from around the world)
The latest thing I did a few days ago is that I now get infos when someone is calling me.
It shows also a picture of the caller and stops my movie or the live TV etc. and disappears after a few seconds (configurable)
So I don't even have to stand up  laughing7 or watch the phone if I want to know who is calling
I can easily sit on the couch and can choose to watch on or to take the call

And of course everything here is connected via a gigabit network switch and 1Mbit network cards.

Last but not least I like the webcam idea Gavin.
If I will ever get a pet again I think it's a must have for me too. mrgreen

Hahahaha, it lights up your bum!

Recently I got a tiny camcorder, and then got a remote control tank to fit it on.
At some point I'll edit a video together of driving round the garden, frightening the cat (limited free time, you can imagine)

My latest aquisition is another remote controlled helicopter. I already have two, but this one is so much better. I previously got the 2 channel ones made of polystyrene when they came out years ago (tricky to fly) and then a 3 channel plastic one when they became affordable (still tricky to fly)

Out shopping before Christmas I came across the Syma S107 for a cheaper price than I got the others (£24). However this is made of quility alloy chassis instead of plastic, and has an electronic gyro-stabiliser which makes is really easy to fly. I've been playing with it all over Christmas, a friend had a go and immediately ordered one. Just a pain waiting for 40 mins charging between 6 mins flying. I've trashed it into walls and funiture many times without damage

Keeps the baby entertained, although the cat is not keen on it Smiley

Another nice gadget Gavin

Just a pain waiting for 40 mins charging between 6 mins flying.

That's still the reason I always think " Nah! I don't buy it"
The fly time is just to short or they are really expensive the longer the time of flying.

But maybe I'll sooner or later buy one too  mrgreen still thinking about it from time to time  laughing7

It's not that much of a pain really, the short flights are still long enough to mess about and expore all four corners of your living room and kitchen. If you can get one for a decent price, it's worth it (cheap on ebay)
