Has anyone had experience with this technology?

https://www.bethere.co.uk/homebroadband.do

I'm thinking of upgrading from my current 1MB Pipex account. Its the same money, but to be honest I havent had problems with Pipex.

I definitely will not be using their wireless "Be Box modem", but most likely something from Billion.

I'm on ASDLMax. The only thing i've heard is the further away from the exchange you are the less bandwidth you get. It drops quickly from 500 meters onward. This may have changed.

Max DSL and ADSL2+ are too very different things, max is up to 8mb, ADSL2+ is up to 24mb.

Supposed to be good, but it's limited where you can get it, because the local exchanged must be LLU (local loop unbulndled I believe)

I'm using ADSL 2+ here.   icon_thumleft

They are using the same line as with "normal  DSL" only the "telephone exchange" outside the houses etc. use another technology (other [more] carrier frequencies with doubled MHz etc.)  to allow more Mbit on the same line and they can reach higher DSL distances (from exchange to the house etc.)

I have a pretty old router from 2004 and with the lastest firmware it is also able to manage ADSL2+ (like the most older routers)

In Germany most providers limited the line to 16 Mbit (they soon want to sell 50Mbit VDSL lines)

I got 13Mbit and it's great to have it  laughing7

I'm currently on Pipex (well nildram) adslMax havn't spoken to anyone testing the newer 24Mb +2 service but looking at the upload I would stick with what you have,

the lite version charges £1 per Gb over the monthly limit thats a high price to pay!

I am waiting for the UK SDSL market to lower its prices Smiley

I've had no end of problems with ADSL ISPs and routers.

I'm now using that be unlimited service that you're looking at with the be box and it's faultless.  Unlike the more expensive routers I've owned.

I only get 5Mb of the supposed 24Mb despite being close to the exchange, but that's because the cowboys who cabled up our brand new apartment block basically used bell wire.  The lag times are the lowest I've experienced though.

I know people who are getting 20Mb on this service.

I wouldn't touch ADSL, one it means being with BT..(not a chance)..and you have to sit on the exchange to maybe get a half decent speed, cable rules, 20mb down 768 up, getting around 19.5 down and upto 900 up for some reason, just one prob, its a tad over priced, but then again so are BT.. laughing7 laughing7

I know, thats why i replied.. laughing7 laughing7 just to annouy you..We do have a new ADSL starting up down called BE..but they are slow at getting the exchanges upgraded, that will be 24mb down, and unlimited up, they say, pricing is good, you ge that for £18 i believe, keeping my eye on it, as NTL, or should i say Virgin Media now, are starting to get abit greedy, which suprises me now we have Branson on board..

Well discussion died so maybe this can be reorganised as  who's your Internet Provider tongue (maybe i missed such topic?)

I'm on cable here with 4 mb down ad 512kb up. Works damn good i have very nice pings to most lfs servers. Never lag out tongue

In addition it's 8mbit from 11pm till 1am and 16 mb from 1 am to 8 am. Really i can't complain. Maybe at the price which is about 25 euro.

That's interesting Kamo,
is it always like this?
I mean that you get DSL with x speed dynamically (more  bandwith at nights etc.)

Here you got always the same with every contract at every company you choose:
"Up to" is the key word.
The sell you "up to" (but most people never read it) 16 or 32mbit but it depends on your line what you get in the end.
If only 13mbit (like in my case) is possible you only get 13  all the time.
If only 6 is possible you only get 6 etc.
There are also people who can only get 768kb in rural areas but they still have to pay the 16mbit contract.

But I can't complain getting 13mbit down and 1024 up on one line
and having a second DSL line just for VOIP phone
got a .de domain with it, a mobile phone card, free calls inside germany from the phone line and the mobile for only 34.99 Euro/month    Smiley
(and I'm getting nice kickbacks (if that's the right word or let's say money) whenever I get them another new customer  lol )

Yup it's working like that for some time now. One way of getting new users for the company i guess.

It's before 9am so i got 8mbits now till 11 am.  But it's not that important to me now. I'm not downloading tons of stuff like i was with my first year when i got the internet (downlaoding amok! ). Now low pings and packet loss is the main thing for me and since it's perfect for me i'm very happy. I don't have such problems like most poeple in Poland with lagging out. That's why conquest racing can't get good result in endurance racing hehe. They lag out at least twice in every race  heh.

Very interesting to read about your speed, increasing at non peak times, but like you say speed is almost unimprotant for LFS Smiley

My ISP was taken over by Tiscali a year or so back Sad whilst I have been told nothing has changed, I had to call my isp a few times when I go over my monthly allowance then have bad connection (constant dropping of conn) They assure me every time that no restrictions are applied, because they charge me extra for every 2GB I go over, after I have spoken with them my conn returns to rock solid, hrmm strange coinsidence Wink

I recently looked at getting the "up to 20Mbs" service but due to my location and the lenth of wire to my local exchange, my maximum connection is around 4meg (currently 3520 kbps up 800kbps down) and after speaking to BT tech, it looks like this will not be improved within the next 10 years. I do have cableTV in my street so I could switch to Virgin and get "up to " 10Mb.

All in all its just more hassle to change to something that may give me more download speed to brag about Smiley but could also make playing LFS and especially endurance races, alot less fun.

SDSL is still a bit too pricey over here too Smiley

You guys still have downlaod quota for a month ? Jeez that's just sick.  No downlaod limits or port blocking here. Freeeeeedom Smiley As far as i know no isp in Poland have any limits now. Strange that in Uk and other countires they still have such thing.

ot.. btw what's with Your birthaday on lfsw grandpa ?
