"the spirit of one good, one shit release"  lol so true

TBH I didn't followed the development news about Win8 much (this time).
I also had the feeling after all I saw that it's more for tablets, pads and touchscreens.
But (no matter how cheap touchscreens become) I don't want to have a PC touchscreen at home touching it all the time with my fingers instead of using the mouse and spending half of the day cleaning the screen again and again. It's funny when you use it to search something at IKEA or at a Trainstation but not on my desk at home please  Wink

Is it true that you need a Windows Live ID to login with your account?
(or it's maybe not implemented in the beta atm).
I think I read somewhere that they want to change the normal Windows  account mode to Windows Live ID only. That would be bad as I don't want/like that Windows live stuff.

Anyway thanks for testing Jan - nice review.
I think I'll handle it like Gavin "leave it  for the moment"

P.S.: Cloud stuff oh oh another no go for me - send all your company and personal data somewhere else - it's safe over there
(where will it be saved? who can watch it? who got access? what laws? We don't tell you exactly but it's completely and absolutely safe - laughing7

If not even global players like Sony can protect customer data or Banks like the Citigroup their creditcard user data properly, I can only imagine how soon we'll get the first real big "Cloud hack" that hits the news.

So I got my hands on the current beta version, or whatever they call it in Redmond, and had some little time to play with it. So here is a short ran report comming up.

As I am to lazy to free one of my HDDs I installed the x86 version in a virtual machine using VirtualBox, so I'll wont give a comment on performance, other than it seems to be OK, or runs more or less smoothly.

Anyway, to me it seems that MS is contining in the spirit of one good, one shit release. Given that XP was good, Vista shit and 7 decent you can already guess about its successor. In the sprit of "Apps Apps and more Apps" combined with "but it has to work on a mobile device too" MS came up with what is in my view the worst result possible, a GUI that could have been only designed by a blind person who randomly selected the colors. To top that the main gui (yes, there are 2 of them) is designed for touchscreens and users that only know maximised as programm option. As you can imagine this genius idea works awesomely well on a 4:3 desktop resolution (VirtualBox issue won't let me use the native 1920x1080)  and is only topped by the horizontal (!) scrollbars.

Being a modern OS Microsoft went cloud as well, so that most of the apps I tried (even solitar) would like to connect with the MS cloud with a newly created account. Works really well on a system without Internet...

Anyway, as mentioned before there is also a 2nd GUI which is more or less the same as the Windows 7 one without the "start button" or start menu, but with some new ribbons for the explorer which now looks like the recent MS Office (2010). The rest seems to be the same, but with randomly switching between the 2 GUIs to do something. As I haven't tried it that much, I can't comment on the daily use yet, but as far as my impressions with this BETA go so far, it's main target are tablets / touchscreens with all the pros and cons.

----
tl;dr;

POS in it's current state, not worth installing.

----

Anyone else tried it yet?

I tried hard but failed again.

Had a nice "Birthday week" my sister had visited me that week.
And we had a lot of fun the whole time
(except when she told me I now do look like the panda from Kung Fu Panda  laughing7 - ok I need to loose some weight again but Kung Fu Panda  twisted). Anyway

Thanks for your wishes guys  icon_thumleft
